The population enjoying water supply of Taipei Water Department is about 3.84 million and covered an area of 434 square kilometer and is the largest public water supply system in northern Taiwan, and the raw water comes from upstream of XindianRiver and highland smaller water sources of Yangmingshan, Suangxi and Beitou areas. The raw water comes from XindianRiver accounts for 97% of the total and the highland water sources, many represented by Yangmingshan area, accounts for 3%.
Yangmingshan area is dense in tall trees, which provides water reservation for highland area. From Chixingshan, Datongshan to Shamaushan system, in total, we collect 16 places ground water and surface water. They are mainly Takengxi water source, Lujiaokeng water source, Yangyi and Yangsan water sources of Yangmingshan and Waisuangxi water source. They supply raw water for the tap water of highland area residents in Shilin, Tienmu, Yangmingshan, Beitou and Suangxi and supplied water to a population more than 50,000 and with wide coverage. The importance is not to be neglected. |
However, with the wide dispersion of water source in highland, it is prone to the effects of weather, hydrology and rainfall. When the rainfall is less, part of Yangmingshan and Beitou area are likely to suffer from water shortage. In view of the dry and raining seasons are becoming norm, TWD has recently completed certain works subsequently and has planned complete water supply projects in long term perspective. We hope this Newsletter will help to bring clear picture to more people that the water resources is not easy to obtain and it takes efforts to maintain to have long term security.
